Bright and energetic, Tisha Campbell, the girl from New York City stars as Marva, the 15-year old business-minded, would-be entrepreneur on the lighthearted musical drama series "Rags To Riches," which begins its second season this fall on Friday nights on NBC-TV.
No newcomer to show business, Tisha is the oldest of four children born to musical parents on October 13, 1968. Tisha began swaying audiences at the young age of six when she won first place and a brand new car in the New Jersey Statewide Talent Contest, thus beginning a career that at the age of 18, has already seen her on the stage, television, in a feature film and as a regular on a network series.
Tisha's stage credits include "Really Rosie," "Mama, I Want to Sing," "The Me Nobody Knows" and a starring role in "Betsy Brown." It was while Tisha was in Maryland performing in the summer stock production of "Little Shop of Horrors" that she was ultimately selected to reprise the role of Chiffon in the feature film version, starring Rick Moranis, Steve Martin and John Candy.
Chosen from over several hundred other actresses for the part of Marva, one of the five young orphan girls on "Rags To Riches," Tisha is thrilled at the opportunity to be able to fulfill her dreams of acting, singing and dancing at the same time. Each weekly episode of "Rags To Riches" will feature the girls in at least two musical videos.
Tisha says of her role, "Marva is so much fun to play. She's happy and really driven to learning as much as she can from Nick about business. I love to be able to act, sing and dance all in one show! Everyone is wonderful, it's great!"
In the past, Tisha has found herself in superior company on television. She's performed in specials with Bill Cosby and Melba Moore. Her television credits also include "Wonderama," Showtime's "The Me Nobody Knows" and "Kids Are People Too." This past summer, Tisha has had the good fortune to co-star in "School Daze" with Spike Lee for Columbia Pictures. The film will be released early next year and Tisha sings the title song.
Tisha lives with her mother in the Los Angeles area so that she can concentrate on her television, film and recording careers.
If anyone has the energy and talent to keep it all going up, up and away, it is Tisha Campbell .
